Crypto exchange Gemini has appointed Dan Chen as its new Chief Financial Officer (CFO), fueling speculation that the company is preparing for a potential IPO.

Chen, formerly a Vice President at Affirm, has also held key roles at MetLife Investments and Morgan Stanley, specializing in capital markets and banking partnerships.

The Road to a Public Listing

Chen’s appointment comes as reports indicate that Gemini is in talks with Goldman Sachs and Citigroup to explore an IPO as early as this year.

Several recent developments have cleared potential regulatory hurdles for the exchange:

  • In February, the SEC dropped its investigation into Gemini.
  • In January, the company resolved a dispute with the CFTC.

With these obstacles removed, the path to going public appears more viable than ever.

Strengthening Industry & Political Ties

Co-founders Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss have been actively engaging with political and industry leaders to bolster Gemini’s position in the crypto sector. They recently participated in the first-ever Crypto Summit at the White House, underscoring the company’s efforts to navigate regulatory challenges and build industry credibility.

Chen’s Vision & Next Chapter

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Dan Chen called crypto “the most dynamic sector in finance” and emphasized his excitement about helping Gemini scale in its next phase of growth.

With a new CFO, improved regulatory standing, and growing institutional partnerships, Gemini appears to be strategically positioning itself for a high-profile public offering in the near future.
